On March 14, 2025, the 17th edition of UniStem Day took place, an international event dedicated to high school students, bringing them closer to stem cell research and the broader world of scientific discovery. Organized since 2009 by the UniStem Center of the University of Milan, this initiative now spans 12 countries, involving 97 universities and research institutes across two continents and engaging over 30,000 students.
This year, UniStem Day 2025 emphasizedthe fundamental right to academic freedom – the freedom to study, move, and seek the truth about the world around us. Indeed, the event is also dedicated to Giulio Regeni, emphasizing the importance of free and independent scientific inquiry.
In UPO joined to this event which, took place at the Perrone Campus Auditorium, featuring expert talks on topics ranging from forensic genetics to fundamental physics, as well as personal stories from researchers working in cutting-edge scientific fields.
Our lab participated to this event by guesting 40 students that visited the laboratories and i facilities at CAAD-Ipazia.
We showcased Hyperion Imaging Mass Cytometry, an innovative hightrough technology which merges mass spectrometry with high-resolution imaging. We also introduced them a bioprinter which allows to reproduce an entire organ by depositing a bioink layer by layer to form a 3D tissue structure. We discussed all the projects running in our lab, including Flamin-Go, a project that has received 6 million euros in funding from the European Community. Its goal is to develop a clinical trial on a chip to predict the most effective drug for patients with rheumatoid arthritis.
