The year 2025 has just begun, and we started with the right foot by publishing two papers!
In one paper, we used advanced flow cytometry to examine immune cell profiles in patients with major depressive disorder (MDD) to identify potential biomarkers for clinical monitoring. Our findings reveal significant associations between specific immune cells (such as CD4+ and CD8+ effector memory T cells) and depressive symptoms, social functioning, and treatment response. These insights suggest the potential for more personalized therapeutic approaches. This marks the first publication from the MIND-ME project, supported by Fondazione Cariplo, and paves the way for future breakthroughs of MIND-ME (2019_3277).

Our second publication, in Vaccine (Elsevier), was supported by the “Piano Riparti Piemonte,” Azione n. 173 “INFRA-P. Realizzazione, rafforzamento e ampliamento Infrastrutture di ricerca pubbliche – bando “INFRA-P2-TECHNOMED-HUB n.378-48.” In this study, we employed the innovative activation-induced marker (AIM) test to detect vaccine-specific CD4+ and CD8+ T cell memory responses in frail patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL). Unlike most studies that rely on ELISpot (which doesn’t identify specific cell types responding to viral peptides), this method allows for more precise detection of immune responses.
